It’s release day!! This Machine Builds Community is out wherever you listen to music. Over the coming days I’m going to share a song by each artist and tell you a bit about them. Today, we’re listening to The Treatment, by Nate In The Evening.
Nate Dingman and Mark Banks are two of Topeka’s top musicians. They are a powerhouse of rhythm and energy. They are pillars of the local Topeka music scene, playing shows regularly at Louie’s, The Brass Rail, and Happy Basset Barrel House. In fact, tomorrow they’re playing a Valentine’s Day show at Happy Basset, so go take your sweetheart to check them out (details in the comments).
NITE deliver fantastic covers, and are infamous for their sets where they play the entirety of Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd on acoustic guitar, violin, and a looping pedal! As great as their covers are, though, I was captured by their originals.
The Treatment grooves, quickly established by Nate’s acoustic guitar. His blend of classic rock, blues, and acoustic/singer-songwriter stylings feel natural and immediately familiar. Mark Banks fiddle shows a long history of collaboration between the two, perfectly accentuating Nate’s singalong vocals, and adding new layers and melody in just the right measure (pa-dun ching).
Give it a listen. Add it to a playlist you enjoy. And definitely go check out Nate In The Evening live the next chance you get.
